Hearing Monday morning for suspects in Christmas Eve shooting death - WKRG News 5

Mobile, AL (WKRG) - UPDATE:  9:54 AM Arraignments for India Nelson and Rory Smith have been reset to Thursday.  The two are accused of murder in the shooting death of 15-year-old Jakory Smith.  They were expected to enter a plea this morning but that has been delayed until later in the week.  India Nelson's lawyer also asked for her bond to be reduced.  No decision was made on that motion today.   ORIGINAL STORY Two murder suspects are expected to appear before a judge later today.  Both 25-year-old India Nelson and 30-year-old Rory Smith are expected to enter pleas during an arraignment hearing.  Nelson and Smith are charged in the Christmas Eve shooting that left a mobile teenager dead. “My children has lost their brother, we're not whole,” said Jakory Smith’s mother Marie Salter Millerden last week.   On Saturday, a celebration of life service was held for 15-year-old Jakory Smith at the Ark of Safety Church in Mobile.  Family members say Smith was staying with relative

Dan McCready: Calls for 48 subpoenas by elections board - The Herald-Sun

Image
The Democrat in North Carolina’s disputed 9th Congressional District election wants to subpoena nearly 50 witnesses for the state board of elections’ hearing scheduled for Jan. 11. But state Republicans vowed to sue Gov. Roy Cooper if he tries to appoint Republican members to the interim board that would be tasked with holding that hearing. Just another day in the wild 9th district. Republican Mark Harris won an apparent victory by 905 votes over Democrat Dan McCready on Nov. 6, but the State Board of Elections and Ethics Enforcement twice declined to certify the election citing voting irregularities among absentee ballots in Bladen and Robeson counties. The nine-member board scheduled a hearing on Jan. 11, but a three-judge panel dissolved the board on Dec. 28 , leaving no board in place at the moment for the potential hearing. $20 for 365 Days of Unlimited Digital Access Last chance to take advantage of our best offer of the year! Thanks, MPCA, for hearing us! To the Editor, - Fillmore County Journal

I’d like to thank MPCA Commissioner John Linc Stine for listening to the hundreds of us in Newburg Township, Fillmore County, and the entire southeastern Minnesota. He listened as we expressed in hundreds of letters and many impassioned speeches our concerns about the environmental risks posed by an enormous hog farrowing operation proposed by the Catalpa project in a region with especially vulnerable surface and groundwater by virtue of the underlying karst geology. I am impressed that science, and the health of natural systems and families in the community were given their due importance — and that he denied the permit request. I applaud his leadership in expressing the need to further study the causes for the already compromised groundwater in the area and, hopefully, possibilities for remediation. I invite others to thank him, too, using any of the following: Commissioner Stine, MPCA, 520 Lafayette Road N, St. Paul, Minn. 55155-4194, John.Stine@state.mn.us, or (651) 757-2014. Sue

Did Energous Finally Prove the Bears Wrong? - Motley Fool

Image
Shares of Energous ( NASDAQ:WATT ) rallied 54% on Dec. 27 after the wireless charging technology developer announced the FCC approval of its first commercial device -- a WattUp-enabled personal sound amplification product (PSAP) from Delight. The PSAPs, which will be produced through a partnership with South Korean telco equipment maker SK Telesys, are now certified to be marketed and sold in the US. PSAPs amplify environmental sounds, but they're cheaper than official hearing aids and can be purchased without a prescription. Image source: Energous. Energous's WattUp technology allows users to charge Delight's PSAP from a wireless charging pad. The bulls likely see the deal as a vote of confidence for WattUp, which Energous claims can allow stationary pads to charge devices from up to 15 feet away. However, the bears -- who bet heavily against its stock as it plunged from $22 to $5 earlier this year -- will likely claim that a charging pad for a PSAP is a far cry fro

But there’s one thing I do know: I can’t do this alone,” she said in the statement Monday. “I’ve spent my career standing up to big banks and powerful corporations, and I didn’t stop when I got to the United States Senate. I don’t have binders full of bankers and CEOs to call for ginormous checks to launch th

He came down with a mysterious illness inside the examination hall only to become deaf within minutes. Anthony Offor was a final year student of Political Science at the University of Lagos. With the death of his father shortly after, he was faced with a bleak future as no employer would want to hire him. Determined to claw his way out of a terrifying situation, Offor wrote a letter, appealing to the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for help. Against all odds, the governor responded and took pity on him, approving N4-4 million for what is called cochlea implant surgery. That was in June 2017. Once the deaf student was told his cheque was ready but the money has remained elusive with the deaf young man suffering a double jeopardy as health ministry officials endlessly toss him from one desk to another. When SATELLITE TIMES located him, Anthony Offor was literally at his wits end inside a Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialist hospital in Lagos where, communicating only by writi
