Western Slope residents who maybe can't make it out to get a hearing test now have a chance to have service right near their home.

Colorado West Audiology Mobile started bringing its van around town in September and is targeting rural areas and places where it's hard to get to see a doctor, in addition to moving around Grand Junction.

"We thought, why not give them an opportunity to have us come to them rather than try to find parking and get all the way up there," hearing instrument apprentice Anna Campanello said. "That was our original plan and it's just starting to grow from there."

Colorado West Audiology Mobile is a division of Colorado West Otolaryngologists, which has been around for 30 years and is located at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Since launching, the mobile van has traveled to administer hearing tests for people in assisted living areas where patients can get also get education on hearing health, hearing aid service and cleaning.

"We're trying to do as much education as we can," Campanello said. "Hearing protection is a big part of it."

As part of the service, one or two staff members come out in the van. Campanello said they can do just about everything they can do in the office. There is a soundproof booth for hearing tests and the staff can provide fitting services for hearing aids.

Campanello said the van is supposed to stay in Colorado, but there are really no other limits to where it can go. The practice has clinics in Montrose, Delta and Rifle and the mobile group is looking to expand from there.

"At this point, we're trying to get a schedule built up for each area," Campanello said. "As we're getting started, we want to try and build up patients."

n A Grand Junction home will sell to the highest bidder next month through a live auction event in Hong Kong.

Bidding for the home at 332 Red Ridge Court on the Redlands will open Dec. 14 and close Dec. 19 (Dec. 20 in Hong Kong) with a live event in the southeast China city. Concierge Auctions is hosting the event through its online marketplace. Bids can come in online at conciergeauctions.com or at the live event.

The sale is targeting Chinese real estate investors, but any prospective buyer can bid from anywhere in the world. A $100,000 bidding deposit in escrow is required.

Concierge Auctions works in partnership with the listing agent — in this case, Linda Afman with RE/MAX 4000 — so the agent is protected and still gets their fees from the sale. The sale is "without reserve," meaning there is not a minimum price to sell the home, according to Matt Kreston with Concierge Auctions.

Kreston said auctions are common with high-end real estate, particularly when the seller wants to find a buyer in a short period of time.

"We bring the market to them and let the market decide."

The home was previously listed at $1.695 million.
