Miracle Ear Raising Awareness on Hearing Loss with Pledge - WDIO

Starting Friday May 31 people are taking the day without sound pledge by using foam ear plugs for a day to experience what it’s like to be a person with a hearing impairment.

People can pick up free ear plugs at Miracle Ear locations to participate in the effort.

"It really focuses on a person with a hearing loss and what it would be like during the rest of the year to feel what they experience. It's more of an eye opener to let people know what it's like. The other thing is also to encourage people to protect their hearing,” Karen Kowalczyk, a board certified hearing instrument specialist, said.

With summer coming up, Kowalczyk said ‘One Day Without Sound’ is also a reminder to protect hearing sooner rather than later from loud noises like lawn mowing, concerts, and fireworks, by using ear plugs or buying special hearing protection.
