CVS, Walgreens hiring thousands during coronavirus pandemic - Knoxville News Sentinel

Grocery stores are hoping to hire East Tennesseans — and fast — as coronavirus concerns have ramped up sales.
Dollar General plans to hire up to 50,000 employees by the end of April, doubling its normal hiring. The majority of these roles will be temporary.
“We are proud to serve as one of America’s essential retailers, and we believe our customers are relying on us now more than ever to provide an affordable, convenient retail option,” Kathy Reardon, Dollar General’s senior vice president and chief people officer, said in a press release. “The Dollar General family continues to do its part in helping our customers and neighbors during these unprecedented times. We invite individuals looking to start or grow a career, as well as for those whose job may be temporarily impacted by COVID-19, to apply for opportunities to help further our mission of Serving Others.”
Walgreens is looking to hire more than 9,500 full-, part-time and temporary workers in customer service roles, pharmacy roles and shift leads. It will also give bonuses to employees in stores and distribution centers beginning in late April.
CVS is hiring 50,000 workers during the crisis. The roles are full-, part-time and temporary jobs in stores, home delivery and distribution.
Publix is looking to hire thousands of associates by the end of March to fill roles in distribution centers and stores.
Walmart plans to hire 4,200 associates to work in Tennessee stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers specifically in Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville.
Kroger has about 100 openings in Knoxville and the surrounding areas, as a result of "unprecedented levels of business," Kroger Nashville division corporate affairs manager Melissa Eads said.
All stores have openings and are primarily looking for grocery stockers, cashiers and pickup associates. Full- and part-time positions are available and starting pay varies by job. Apply at jobs.kroger.com.

Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen told CNBC that the grocer has hired more than 2,000 people in the last week to keep up with the demand as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Almost 7,000 jobs are posted.

Costco in Farragut has about 20 positions listed, including stockers, food service assistants and cashiers, as well as pharmacist, optician and senior hearing aid specialist. Target has listed 124 jobs in Tennessee, many of which multiple locations are hiring for, including merchandise team leader and food and beverage team lead. Specific positions for Knoxville include cashier, front-of-store attendant, general merchandise positions, guest advocate and specialty sales.
