The service can map ethnicity back through multiple generations, and its ever-growing list of DNA matches means it may even help identify relatives you never knew you had. Once you send in the sample, the lab gets to work. Ancestry will send an email indicating that results are ready to view online. (By the way, privacy is an option; anyone who doesn't want their info shared can just download the findings and tell Ancestry to delete the files.)
