Monmouth Medical Center Unveils Plans for Vogel Medical Campus at Tinton Falls - RWJBarnabas Health
Investment in state-of-the-art facility at historic site advances a bold vision to transform healthcare throughout the region
Long Branch, NJ – June 21, 2022 – Monmouth Medical Center (MMC), an RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) facility, on Tuesday unveiled plans to build the Vogel Medical Campus – a state-of-the-art outpatient care center – at the former Fort Monmouth Myer Center site in Tinton Falls. The medical campus is made possible by a historic $50 million gift to MMC from local philanthropists Sheldon and the late Anne Vogel. Pending all necessary approvals, construction is expected to begin in early 2023.
The Vogel Medical Campus at Tinton Falls will bring world-class care to a convenient location where patients can access services in one place – creating a seamless and exceptional experience. The outpatient center will include surgical and imaging services, physician offices and support services. Patients will also have access to comprehensive cancer care provided in partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state's only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.
"We are working to create an outstanding experience by making high-quality services available when, where and how patients prefer," says Eric Carney, President and CEO of Monmouth Medical Center. "As an expansion of the MMC campus in Long Branch, the Vogel Medical Campus is located within the communities we already serve. It will be a future-forward facility uniquely tailored to meet the needs of our diverse and growing community."
The development of the Vogel Medical Campus is part of MMC's mission to create an integrated outpatient network that helps patients maintain wellness and meet their care needs today and in the future. It is also supported by RWJBH's expansive primary and specialty care provider network throughout the region. Recent advancements include:
- MMC and its Unterberg Children's Hospital opened the Anne Vogel Family Care and Wellness Center at the Monmouth Mall in Eatontown. The center also provides access to the outstanding offerings of Children's Specialized Hospital, also an RWJBH facility.
- MMC partnered with Monmouth University to open the Linda Grunin Simulation Lab and Learning Center in West Long Branch, providing high-tech, hands-on learning experiences for medical residents, students and staff.
"The need for extraordinary care close to home has never been more important. Through our thoughtful expansion, we're reimagining how patients interact with their healthcare," says Bill Arnold, President and CEO of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and President of RWJBarnabas Health's Southern Region. "By listening to and learning from those we serve and partner with, we're shaping the future of care in the region together."
Monmouth Medical Center is the only hospital in the region to receive an "A" Hospital Safety Score by the Leapfrog Group for 15 consecutive rating periods. MMC was also named a top teaching hospital by the Leapfrog Group in 2021 and was named to the 2022 Newsweek list of "World's Best Hospitals".
As part of the outpatient center development at the Vogel Medical Campus, plans for transforming the site also include the option for a new acute care hospital, should there be a future need. This hospital would be an expansion of the care already provided at Monmouth Medical Center, and would operate in conjunction with the Long Branch campus. If the decision is made to move forward with an acute care hospital, construction would begin by 2027 and be completed by late 2029. If this phase of work does not move forward, the designated land will be converted into a green space.
"We are proud of the confidence placed in us to transform healthcare in the region, and we will continue working with our patients, communities and partners to determine the best path forward together," says Carney.
