Why Get A Free Hearing Screening At Advanced Audiology? - KHTS Radio

Advanced Audiology offers free hearing screenings to the community, and there are a number of reasons to take advantage of this valuable resource, according to Santa Clarita audiologist Nola Aronson.

#1 – To establish a hearing baseline in the case of an accident

Even if a person has no issues with their hearing, Aronson stressed the importance of establishing a baseline through a free hearing screening.

In the case of an accident that results in hearing loss, having a baseline on file with Advanced Audiology can help in getting worker’s compensation or insurance claims approved, according to Aronson.

“One of my patients got in a car accident a year after she got her normal hearing baseline, and the airbag went off next to her ear. She lost her hearing,” Aronson said. “We were able to prove to the insurance company that it was from the accident, not from her age, not from anything else… She got free hearing devices to help her hear.”

#2 – To rule out a medical issue that may be causing hearing loss

If a person has no intention of getting a hearing device to correct their hearing loss, Aronson still advises a free hearing screening in order to rule out any potential medical issues.

“There’s so many medical conditions related to hearing loss,” Aronson said. “Do you have wax in your ears, do you have fluid in your ears, is your eardrum broken, did you have a stroke, do you have diabetes?”

An example of this is when KHTS Owner Carl Goldman went to see Aronson for a sudden hearing loss in one of his ears, which turned out to be an acoustic tumor.

“We were able to get it right away, so it didn’t affect his health,” Aronson said. “That’s just an example of, you never know.”

#3 – To find a hearing loss solution that can improve quality of life

Hearing is vital in communication, and communication is key in connecting with others, according to Aronson, who noted in a previous KHTS interview that hearing loss can lead to isolation and depression when someone stops being social because they can’t hear.

“Your quality of life, that’s what’s so important. That’s all we care about, is how can we help you?” Aronson said, noting that she isn’t in the business of simply “selling” hearing aids.

Aronson continued, “If you don’t want to do something about it, we’re not going to push you into it, but we will educate you. We will help you. We’ll do anything that we can to make your life better. That’s what we’re all about at Advanced Audiology.”
