WakeMed and UnitedHealthcare dispute could leave 20000 patients out of network - WUNC

Image
Some 20,000 patients with UnitedHealthcare insurance coverage could go out-of-network with WakeMed on June 1 if contract negotiations continue to sour. The health provider and insurer disagree on reimbursement policies and rates. UHC says WakeMed's reimbursement rate demands are too high. "Agreeing to WakeMed's proposal would increase health care costs by $20 million in just one year and is not affordable or sustainable for the North Carolina residents and employers we serve," according to a UHC statement about the negotiations. However, WakeMed says UHC has denied too many claims. "Last year, UnitedHealthcare denied reimbursement for medical care to WakeMed patients significantly more than any other insurance company, meaning UnitedHealthcare believes they have the right to determine the necessity of your medical care. We disagree," according to a WakeMed statement about the negotiations. UnitedHealthcare is a major player in the North Carolina health insu

I’ve Been Doing This Easy Glute Exercise While Sitting at Work, and Seen Major Results Without Thinking About It - Well+Good

Image
E ven as someone who works out regularly, my lack of glute strength easily gives away how many hours a day I spend sitting on my butt. Whenever I get injured—whether in my hips, my thighs, or my lower back—my physical therapist almost always tracks it back to some kind of compensation my body's making for my weak backside. (The price of #desklife.) Last month, it was my tailbone that started to act up so badly that I could barely walk to the kitchen and back. My doctor confirmed it was sacroiliac joint pain, and although it was likely caused mainly by pregnancy hormones relaxing my pelvis too much too soon, the problem was exacerbated by instability from—you guessed it—weak glutes. I promptly went scrounging around YouTube in search of some workouts that might help. In one video by BodyLove Pilates, trainer Ali Handley shares a glute exercise that's done seated with a resistance band looped around the calves: While pushing the legs outwards into the band, you slow

How Mobility Is Taking Care of Patients and Providers - HealthTech Magazine

Image
Enable Mobility Anywhere for Clinicians The COVID-19 pandemic rapidly expanded telemedicine access, but it also stoked interest in the value of mobile technologies within the walls of clinical settings, says IDC Research Director Mutaz Shegewi. "Mobile solutions can provide ubiquitous access to diagnostic test results and medical databases, enable clinicians to see and add documentation to electronic health records from anywhere, and can facilitate rapid videoconferencing for physicians," Shegewi says. Some 79 percent of healthcare organizations support smartphones, the top supported device since 2012, according to a 2021 survey from healthcare communications company Spok. There's also more support for tablet devices. But the promise of mobility within healthcare brings along many complications, including the need for extra attention to security, privacy and regulatory compliance. The proliferation of endpoints requires mobile device management, as well as applicati

Home care crisis: Carers paid €11 per hour while companies make huge profits - Irish Examiner

The crisis in healthcare is too often only discussed in terms of hospitals, but for almost 5,000 mainly elderly people the crisis is in their homes. A severe shortage of carers is leaving these people without anyone to deliver their funded homecare packages, leaving many of them in bed all day. Cork-based carer Louise Murphy says the work is very demanding but very rewarding as well. Picture: Denis Minihane She and others in the industry point to low wages, long hours, and insecure working conditions pushing the mainly female workforce to desert the profession.
